my cute sign

I posted on facebook last week about how excited I was about how this project was turning out and now that its up I love it!
I didn't have instructions (well other than my brain telling me what to do) I just made it up.
I started by figuring out what size I wanted my "blocks" to be. Since I want it to take up a big blank space on our wall above our tv I had to make them pretty big. Cut out a piece of cardboard for each letter and make sure they are all the same size (unless you don't care)

then you have to pick your colors... I matched the colors of my family room which are blues and brown. You will want to pick out your background color AND the color you want to go on top for your  letters. I picked out a different color and pattern for each the background and the letter. Cut out your background colors the same shape as the cardboard if they are a little bigger that is okay as long as all the colored paper is the same size.

place your cut out paper and card board aside. Decide how big you want your letters. Cut the white paper out to the size you want them and write out the letters your going to use on each separate piece of white paper. Then start cutting out the letters.(you could just skip this step and do this on the colored paper you chose in the beginning for your letters but I wasn't feeling confident enough to do that)

Once you've cut out your letters, they will be come your stencil to trace onto your colored paper you chose for your letters. Before you do this make sure you have the colored paper in the order you want it. This took me a long time because I am so picky and couldn't get the colors to look right. Then start tracing your white letters onto your colored paper and cut them out.

once you've cut them out use mod podge to glue the letters to your background paper. After you glued the letters on, coat the top of your paper, all of it, with the glue. Wait for it to fully dry. Then coat the cardboard with the mod podge and center the background paper onto the cardboard. Press the paper down to make it stay. Make sure all the cardboard is covered.

Let dry. Pick out the color yarn you want to hang them with. Make two small holes at the top by both the top corners. Cut a piece of yarn for each "block." Cut the yarn to be all the same length. Feed the yarn through the back of the cardboard through the first hole. Tie a little knot in the back the make the yarn stay. Take the other side of the yarn piece and feed it through the other hole and tie a knot in the back of the cardboard on that side to make it stay. Then you're done!

I hung mine up with very small nails... what do you think?

Our Thankful Turkey

remember a couple posts back I said I wanted to make a Turkey decoration with the kids.... It isn't the cutest thing in the world but at least we could ALL decide 5 things we are thankful for and use them as feathers! Here it is!

Then they decided to do a dance (We'll call it Natalie-topia, you'll see why at the end)

today is a fun day!

So as we were driving home last night, from the airport, there was a huge snow storm outside! Dave was hoping it would stick so he wouldn't have to mow the lawn and guess what?! It did! We woke up had some donuts (healthy I know....but we don't do it very often) and then put on our coats and gloves and went to play! One of Dave's co-working gave him a sun sled thingy earlier in the week because he didn't have kids to use it. The kids loved it. Natalie even took Pookey down our little hill with her. It was super fun, then we came inside and drank some hot chocolate and watched star wars to warm up!

more posts from today to come :-)

thanksgiving decor....heck yes!

I wasn't going to do a craft this weekend because we are very low on money right now. But I was searching for fun crafts anyway and found this....
I'm excited because I'm going to change it up a little bit but mostly because we already have everything! And its also something our whole family can do together. I will post about how it goes later and see if we end up liking our end result of not... thank you free stuff!

adventures around our town

So we had the kids for about 4 days this last weekend and LOVED it! We went exploring....A few days before they came we took the motorcycle out to the skull valley road (we've never been that way) And really wanted to stop and see some sights BUT 1. we were basically out of gas 2. we were on the motorcycle and couldn't go on gravel roads 3. very dark clouds were among us, so we came back with the kids a few days later. I don't think they enjoyed it as much as we did. There were millions of mosquitoes and most of them were sworming Dave....but Dave and I still wanted to see the sights so we walked around a bit and took in a bit of history....ready, set.......GO!
This is the place the Tongans came after Joseph Fielding Smith converted them to the gospel. It is mainly just a cemetery (way sad some of the stones) and a big outdoor meeting place, we haven't discovered where they used to live.... It might be over the hill or something if anything is left of it..... but it was amazing...this is right down the way from our town.

This is down the road a bit. It's called Horseshoe Springs. It was SO beautiful there! I want to go back when there aren't as many mosquitoes!
